Roman Theater

Roman theater is on of the most important Roman monuments in Egypt , it was built at the beginning of the fourth century AD , and it was used until the seventh century AD .

It was discovered in 1960 during searching about Alexander The Great’s Tomb , and they said that Roman theater used as lecture hall for the students and concert hall also .

The design of the Roman theater it look like “Horseshoe” or ” U ” , the Roman theater consists of 13 rows of From the marble terraces Numbered with Greek letters and numbers Organizes seating for attendees starting from the bottom to the top made of pink granite .

In the top of this rows there 5 chapels , There are none left just two chapels , and the ceiling of the chapels it was domed and based on a columns , but this ceiling and the columns fall down impact of the earthquake that hit the city in sixth century AD .

Pillar Column

We talk before about the Roman theater it was one of the most important Roman monuments in Egypt , we have also one of these importance Roman monuments in Egypt its Pillar Column or ” Elsawari Column ” .

It was built in third Century AD , built To commemorate for The Emperor ” Deqlidyanos ” , the column is constructed hill of ” Bab Sedra ” between the areas of Muslims tombs and Kom elshaqafa Archaeology hill currently .

The higher of the column is 27 meters , and this column is the highest memorial building in the world.

Pillar Column made of red granite stone , and this column is the last monument of Serabium Temple in Alexandria that constructed by ” Postomus” .

The design of the Column made of one Granite stone , It is diameter in the base is 2,70 meters , and in the crown is 2,30 meters , and there next to the column two statues look like ” Spinx statue ” made of pink granite its dates back to the reign of “Ptolemy VI” ,There is an inscription on one of them for King ” Hor Mohb ” from the 18th Dynasty of Pharaonic era.

The column named with Elsawari Column that the Arabian thought that this Column look like Ships column .
