Nefertari temple in Abu-Simbel

QUEEN “NEFERTARI” is a wife of King Ramesses II of 19th Dynasty , she had a special stature to King Ramesses II , and he loved her too much , King Ramesses II built Temple for Queen Nefertari next to his temple in Abu Simbel , they were thinking that a soul of Hathor live in this mountain for this built this Temple for Hathor and His wife Nefertari .

Description of The Temple ….

This temple was carved in the rock and located on 100 meters away north of the Temple of Ramesses II in Abu-Simbel , The temple is characterized by the appearance of the feminine aesthetic , this shown in the beautiful lines of the forms of the Queen and the Gods , most of the temple’s scenes focus on the temple’s daily religious ceremonies , such as ” offering flowers , incense , and the offerings “.

The facade of the temple contains 6 statues “4 for Ramesses II” and “2 for Nefertari ” , The height of the facade is 12 meters and the width is 18 meters . The facade id divided into two parts between these parts there is the entrance , each part containing three statues , two for the King and One for the Queen , and the height of the statues is 10 meters .

In the right part of the facade there is statue for the Queen Nefertari she wearing transparent dress and hold in her hand chopping tool , and on her head there is Hathor’s Crown . and next to these statues there is small statues for the King and the Queen’s sons and daughters . Between the second and the third tower of the facade there is the text that the King Ramesses II offered to his wife Nefertari and he say in this text ” this great and the huge building for the great royal Queen “Nefertari ” for her that the sunrise ” .

When we enter to the temple we find a square Hall , its called “Hall of Hathor’s Columns ” it contains 6 columns , it have 18 scenes on the sides of the columns but on the facade of the columns there is a face of Goddess Hathor , on the sides of the columns there is pictures of the Gods and Goddesses ” Horus-Meam , Mut , Horus-Kopan , Khonum , Khonsu , Isis , Horus-Bohen , Thoht , Maat , Satet , Hathor ”

The Scenes Of The First Hall ……

This Hall contains many religious scenes , but in the east part of this hall there is military scenes .

On the south wall there is the King standing and receive “Manat” from Hathor icts meaning achieve the Happinese for the King, and there is also scene for the King Ramesses II he standing between Horus and SiT They install the dual crown on the King’s Head.

On this wall also there is scene for the King and offering the flowers and the chopping to the Goddess “Enkt” .

In the end of this wall we see the King offering the small statue for Maat to God AMun-Ra .


On the northern wall we see the King Ramesses II , and offering the offerings to God ” Ptah” , and another scene in front of the God “Heri-chif” , and scene in front of Hathor , in the end on this wall the King offering the wine to God “Ra-Hor-Akhty” the god of sun .

On the eastern wall there is scene for the King Ramesses II hits the enemies of Nubian and Asian in front of God Horus and behind the King there is His wife Queen “Nefertari”.

On the western wall there is scenes for the Queen Nefertari, in the northern part of this wall, the Queen Offering the flowers and chopping to Hathor, and the southern part of the wall the Queen Offering to the Goddess Mut.

The second Hall …..

Most of the scenes in this Hall for the King Ramesses II , on the western wall , the King offering the wine to God Amun-Ra.

On the southern part of the western wall , the King offering the offerings to God Horus in local forms in towns “Enayba , Koban , Bohn ” , in the top of the entrance of the southern side room , there scene , the King offering the flowers to Goddess Hathor in cow forms on boat and walk around the Delta.

On the eastern wall in the northern part we find the king Ramesses II , and his wife Queen Nefertari , offering the flowers to Goddess “Tawert” birth goddess , and children protective and on her head Hathoraic crown .

On the southern part of the same wall , the Queen Nefertari standing between Goddess “Isis ” on the right , and Goddess “Hathor” on the left and they crowned the Queen with Hathor’s crown .

On the top of the side room , the Queen offering the flowers to Goddess Hathor in cow form in boat and walk around in the Delta . On the end of the western wall , the Queen offering the flowers to the Goddesses of “Alvantine” ” Khonum , Satet , and Enket” .

The Holy of Holies …….

In the end of the temple there small room for Holy of Holies , on the external terrace on this room , the King and the Queen in front of Hathor and Mut , on the shoulders of the door there is scenes for the King Ramesses II .

There is scenes for the God “Hapi” on the internal shoulders of the door . On the southern wall in the Holy of Holies , scene for Queen Nefertari and hold the vaporizer and chopping tool in front of Goddesses “Mut and Hathor ” . And on the northern wall there is scenes for the King and the Queen in front of their pictures . On the western wall , the Goddess Hathor in cow form and get out from the western mountain and bottom of her the king with small size .
